Oscars Worst and Best Dressed

The fashion at this year's Academy Awards was almost, almost but not quite, as average as Kirsten Stewart's acting skills. So many of Hollywood's leading ladies played it safe, selecting gowns the public would love instead of choosing something more fashion forward. There were some stand outs, but on a whole even the best dressed of the night were still, well super boring! As expected, Helena Bonham Carter landed herself firmly on a majority of the worst dressed lists, but we'd expect nothing more from her. And anyway, her quirkiness and amazing acting skills excuse her from almost anything *cough* favourite actress!  But, without further ado, here are the nominees for Angie's Best Dressed Award...

THE BEST DRESSED LIST

Cathrine Zeta Jones in Zuhair Murah and Lorraine Schwartz Jewellery
The colour is stunning against her olive skin and the shape accentuates her amazing curvaceous bod. The embellishments are divine and I think she is still the sexiest woman alive.

Halle Berry in Versace. I love this gown! The shoulder pad feature gives the dress a sharp, contemporary look that compliments her hair style. The vertical stripes that panel the front of the gown slim her already tiny figure. The stripes, fading to gold at the base of the gown, balance the shape which would have otherwise been slightly top heavy due to the accentuated shoulders.

Jenna Dewan in Reem Acra. She's Channing Tatum's wife and currently carrying his first child. She's stunning and talented and if that's not enough, she also looked amazing (even though she was dressing a baby bump). The lace and red lip compliments her porcelain skin and the splash of colour in her earrings was the perfect final touch.

Naomi Watts in a stunning Armani Prive gown. The colour suits her perfectly, her relaxed hair compliments the style of the gown and shows off the feature neckline. I can't fault this look at all! She looks radiant and I can't believe how amazing she looks for 45!

Fashion Journalist Louise Roe wore a Monique Lhuillier gown, Jimmy Choo shoes, Jacqueline Nerguizian jewellery with a Marchesa clutch. It's pretty but I feel she should have pulled all of her hair back, or scooped the hair up on the side. The neckline is the gown's defining feature and we can't see it.

Sally Field in Vintage Valentino. This dress is perfection for her. It's age appropriate, it defines her waist, slimming her immediately. Her hair and skin tone compliment the Valentino red and she just looks fabulous! She may have lost to the young girls in the Oscar stakes but she swept them all away with her fashion choices. She still got it!

Samantha Barks rocks a hot Valentino gown. It's a contemporary twist on the classic black dress. The plunging neckline suits her petite figure and I'm actually loving the simplicity of the gown. The pockets add a young element too, making the gown fresh. I feel this was a great choice for her as anything with too much volume would have just over powered her.

Stacey Keibler in a Naeem Khan gown. It's no doubt why she has George Clooney smitten as a kitten, look how hot she is! I'm not digging the hair style but it compliments the dress and as a complete look and that's all that counts!

Jennifer Garner looks simply stunning in this violet Gucci gown. The jewellery, the hair, the colour...it's perfection!

Jennifer Lawrence in Dior. It's on the top of all the best dressed lists but I feel we've seen the shape and colour before. She does look amazing though, so she made the list. I'm loving the backwards necklace too!

And the winner of the 2013 Angie's Best Dressed Award goes to.....NAOMI WATTS!

Now, for a but if fun! Let's dissect some of the looks on the night that didn't quite come together.

THE WORST DRESSED LIST

We can see her nips and it looks like she stole her big sisters prom dress from 1988.

This gown looks like it's about to slip off. She has a great body but the bodice of the gown is so ill fitting! As they say, money doesn't buy class.

Cat ears at the Academy Awards. Take them off right meow!

It's frumpy and ill fitting but it still suits her in some strange way. A Bellatrix Lestrange way? heh

I'm not sure what it is about this look, but I just don't like it. It may be the heavy fringe and the obscure shape of the gown. It's all a bit much.

This gown could of been a real winner, if it fit properly. The top of the bodice looks too big and it doesn't fit the proportions of her body. It just doesn't sit right!  It looked even worse when she limped out on stage with hair that looked like she's just been nuggied and unenthusiastically presented an award.

Just stop it.

The shape is gorgeous but the fabric is a bit casual and I feel the colour is a bit...tacky? If it was in a onyx blood red or black it would have been smoking!

Say what!? It's not Oscar appropriate but I still kind of dig it.

She's one of the hottest women alive but this gown makes her look like a tiny, solid statue. Her make up is also a bit heavy and it ages her.

This is an awesome outfit but not for the Oscars. It is very on trend, but more for a ready to wear A/W 13 look though.

Seriously, this is Seth McFarlane's father and his father's wife.

It's Peter Griffin and Trica Takanawa! YES!

And that's it for now my stylish little minxes! Stay tuned for the Winter Essential blog which will be published soon!
